FTC Audit Requirements

The FTC implemented the Safeguards Rule in 2003 to help keep customer information safe by requiring non-banking financial institutions such as mortgage brokers, auto dealerships and payday lenders to implementa and maintain a security program.

As of 2021, the rule was amended because of evolving technology. Organizations are required to implement these new changes by June 9, 2023.
